OML Partners FRSC on Safety Awareness for Motorbike Operators

Oando Marketing Limited (OML), Nigeria’s leading oil retailer and a subsidiary of Oando PLC, Nigeria’s leading integrated energy provider, in its bid to encourage safety consciousness by motorbike operators in Lagos popularly referred to as ‘okada riders’ has partnered with Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in organizing a 3 day safety awareness campaign from Thursday, March 26th to Monday, March 30th.

The awareness campaign will see Oando and the FRSC team covering five (5) identified high motorbike accident areas within Lagos metropolis namely;

  1. Lagos Island and Ikoyi environs
  2. Surulere, Ojuelegba and Yaba environs
  3. Ojodu, Berger and Ogba environs
  4. Iyana Ipaja and Orile Agege environs
  5. Festac town, Satellite and Tradefair environs

Commenting on this initiative, Mrs. Lara Banjoko, Chief Operating Officer, Oando Marketing said “Oando Marketing is identified with value adding products, services and initiatives. Our partnership with FRSC with this safety awareness campaign is our way of showing concern to addressing the high accident incidence of motorbike operators. We strongly believe this campaign will provide them with adequate safety education that will help shape their attitude while riding the motorbike moving forward”.

In addition to this awareness campaign, Oando Marketing will be presenting okada riders at the venue with bad or the wrong type of safety helmets with Oando branded safety helmets. The helmets are certified by FRSC in line with Road Safety regulations 2004 and ISO specifications that say it has to be well padded, strips to the chin, a face guard and well ventilated. This initiative is to help support the current FRSC education on the use of the standard safety helmets meant for motorbike riders to guarantee safety of the user in the event of an accident.

This same vision of positively affecting lives in various host communities or societies where Oando does business in particular and the public in general has driven the organization to embark on various laudable projects and initiatives in recent time amongst which include;

  1. Financial donation to Ama Community in support of their Community Hall building project
  2. Yearly financial donation to 46 charity homes pan Nigeria
  3. Financial support towards the installation of the transformer at Port Harcourt warehouse community locality
  4. Construction of borehole and storage tank project at Onne community, Port Harcourt
  5. 12 Secondary School scholarship payout for students at Bundu Ama and Onne community

(8 students at Bundu Ama community and 4 students at Onne community)
