In line with its strategy to create a sustainable system that educates and empowers children, the Oando Foundation just completed training for 11 master trainers and over 500 teachers in its adopted schools.
A detailed Teacher Development Needs Assessment (TDNA) was conducted by Pearson. The TDNA was designed and implemented by directly engaging Head teachers, Teachers and students from 23 Oando Foundation adopted schools across 12 states. The outcome of the assessment informed the design of a Professional Teacher Development Programme customized to meet the specific requirements of teachers in the Nigerian context.
Consequently, master trainers were identified and selected from the National Teachers’ Institute and their capacities developed to administer training. On completion of the master teacher training, the trainers were deployed to conduct a 5 day professional training programme for Head Teachers and Teachers in selected adopted schools

Oando Foundation has a long-standing global commitment to providing quality education and has demonstrated this through its Adopt-a- School Initiative. UNESCO Education for All Report 2013/14 statistics reveal that there is a deficit in the number of trained primary school teachers in Nigeria. The ideal pupil/trained teacher ratio should not exceed 1:40. However, in some schools in northern Nigeria, there are more than 200 students per trained teacher, hence our call to action.
