Gaslink Connects BUA Facilities to Gas Grid… Grows Customers Base to 81

Gaslink Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Oando Gas and Power has connected BUA Sugar Refinery facilities to its gas pipeline grid for its electricity needs. This connection brings to 81 the number of Gaslink industrial customers now connected the gas grid.

Gas supply from Gaslink will help BUA realise its planned capacity of 2,000 metric tones of sugar a day from the facilities. The reduced fuel costs and environmental friendliness of running on gas as against other fossil fuels were some of the reasons BUA opted to use gas for its operations

Commenting, Bolaji Osunsanya the Managing Director of Gaslink Nigeria Limited (GNL), states, “This connection is a demonstration of our determination to keep industries in Nigeria running profitably through on our clean, safe and environment friendly gas fuels. They can be rest assured that they have trusted their state of the art facilities to an entity committed to international safety and quality standards”.

The successful connection of the refinery’s boilers to the pipeline network has been made possible by the completion of a section of Gaslink’s Greater Lagos Phase 3 expansion project, which extended the network to the Tin Can Island achieved with the crossing of the Liverpool river to the island. This was an integral design of its 38 kilometre Phase-3 gas pipeline expansion project in Lagos state.

The expansion project which commenced in May 2007 will now deliver 1.809 million standard cubic feet (mmscf/d) of natural gas to the Apapa industrial area. In strict adherence to safety standards, the completion was followed by a successful hydrostatic pressure test conducted on the infrastructure, which confirmed the integrity of the pipelines.
In 2001, Gaslink embarked on a phased urban pipeline network development drive that began with the construction of an 11.2 kilometre pipeline network, with a capacity to deliver 15mmscf/d, from the Nigerian Gas Company’s City Gate at Ikeja through Oba Akran, Lateef Jakande and Acme Roads; all within the Ikeja industrial scheme.

Following the successful completion of the first phase of its development, the company commissioned its Ikeja 1B gas line with a capacity to deliver an additional 5mmscf/d to companies within Oregun through to Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja. By 2004, Gaslinks pipeline network was further expanded by an 84 kilometre distribution line designed to deliver a throughput of 65mmscf/d through Ojota, Isolo, Amuwo Odofin, Ilupeju, Matori and Isolo. With this, Gaslink has developed an extensive 100km pipeline network covering the major industrial areas in Lagos State.

In the near future, Oando Gas and Power plans to extend its business beyond Lagos State, to other parts of Nigeria and indeed, West Africa. Construction work has already commenced in Calabar, Cross Rivers state and Akwa Ibom state where it seeks to extend franchise rights from the Nigeria Gas Company (NGC), while further positioning itself as the preferred Local Distribution Company (LDC) for the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) that will transport natural gas from Nigeria to Ghana, Togo and Benin.

Gaslink Nigeria limited is an indigenous company established to promote gas distribution and utilization in Nigeria. The company, a subsidiary of Oando Gas and Power, is operating a 20-year Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with the Nigeria Gas Company. Gaslink is the pioneer and one of the few companies in Nigeria involved in the piping and distribution of natural gas to industrial, residential and commercial consumers.
