Oando Boosts Upstream Division with New Executive Appointments

In its drive to further boost its upstream operations and continuously position itself as Nigeria’s integrated energy solutions provider, Oando PLC has announced the appointments of Mr. Tunde Ogunnaike and Dr. Raphael Awoseyin as the new Chief Executive Officer for Oando Exploration and Production Limited (OEPL) and Group Head, Infrastructure, Oando PLC respectively with effect from 1st July, 2008.

Mr. Tunde Ogunnaike is charged with leading OEPL in extracting optimal value from Oando’s diverse upstream asset portfolio and seek newer opportunities in the exploration business while Dr. Raphael Awoseyinwill assume responsibility for all the major downstream, midstream and upstream projects. He will help the company in developing a structured approach to developing, evaluating, ranking and committing to major projects and ensure the achievement of synergy in the process.

According to the Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, Mr. Wale Tinubu, “In Oando, investment in our human capital resources gives us the competitive edge to harness our assets in generating higher margins from our business lines. Commenting further on these appointments, Mr. Tinubu added ”Dr. Awoseyin and Mr. Ogunnaike who are tested and proven individuals are joining at a critical point as they would systematically bring to completion critical near term projects and products especially in the acquisition of assets that will expand its operational activities and provide significant development and exploitation opportunities.”

Below are the profiles of the new appointees:

Mr Babatunde Ogunnaike joined Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 1978 as a Wellsite Petroleum Engineer. He later became the Head of Business Planning and Economics, and in 1993 was assigned as Senior Economics Engineer with Shell Expro – London, UK. He returned to SPDC in 1996 as Head, Production Planning, Programming and Information Services and served at various times in Corporate Planning, Petroleum Engineering and Technical Services departments before his appointment as Commercial Operations Manager in 2005. He was appointed General Manager – Joint Venture Management in 2006, a position he held till May, 2008.

Dr Raphael Awoseyin, the Group Head, Infrastructure, started his career in the downstream sector with British Petroleum Nigeria Limited, the predecessor company to AP Plc, in 1973. He later joined Acorn Petroleum and left in 1984 to assume duty in Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) as Planning and Design Engineer. He rose to the position of Head, Swamp Field Engineering before being assigned to Petroleum Development, Oman, as Senior Project Engineer and subsequently Head of Interior Engineering.
He returned to SPDC in 1994 where he held various Engineering and Project positions. From 2000 – 2004, he led the SAP (ERP System) Implementation for all the Shell Companies in Nigeria. He was later appointed General Manager, Gas Development in 2006, a position he held till May 2008.
