Oando Set to Sponsor Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Women in Energy Conference

Oando PLC (referred to as “Oando” or the “Group”), Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy group listed on both the Nigerian and Johannesburg Stock Exchange is set to sponsor the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ (SPE) ‘Women in Energy Conference’ themed ‘Positioning Women for Local Content Business and Leadership Opportunities in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector’ and scheduled to take place at the Wings Office Complex, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, Lagos on February 27, 2019.

SPE’s Women in Energy Conference is one of many female gender focused platforms championed by Oando to promote the need for increased gender diversity within the industry, specifically Exploration & Production (E&P). A platform that enables Oando to not only showcase internal business initiatives to raise the quota of women across all strata within the organization, but to discuss sector challenges and proffer solutions that will enable all industry players to empower women to pursue long term career goals within the sector. All grounded in the Company’s belief that women have an instrumental role to play in moving the industry forward.

Speaking on the sponsorship of the conference, Head Corporate Communications, Oando PLC, Alero Balogun said;

“The issue of gender diversity has never been more topical; yet the oil and gas sector remains the least gender diverse industry in the world. Closing this diversity gap is pertinent not just to show an industry that is moving with the times but one that understands the intrinsic role women can play in revolutionizing the industry. A more diverse workforce promotes an inclusive environment, enables better decision-making processes with the ability to positively impact performance. These are just some of the reasons why we are proud to partner with the SPE on their Women in Energy Conference to further promote gender parity as a way of supporting advancements in the sector. This is not a first for us, both locally and internationally we have been intentional about being on platforms that showcase our women executives and also allow us share from our own experiences in building a more gender balanced company. In the past we have partnered with the likes of Nigerian Oil and Gas (NOG) Conference, Africa Oil Week (AOW), Oil Council Africa Assembly, and Women in Management and Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) Conference amongst others. As an organization we implore women in energy to attend the event as I have no doubt that the line-up of activities for the day will positively impact them and the industry as a whole.

The one-day event aims to spark discourse and action for more female participation in the oil and gas sector via a keynote address and panel discussion made up of seasoned sector players representing both sexes. Expected attendees at the conference include individuals from both the public and private sector including policymakers, International Oil Companies (IOCs), engineering professionals, and oil and gas professionals.
