Logistics – Transporters’ Ethics

Do’s:

Transporters should:

a) Educate their drivers on the need to conform with our rules and regulations both within and outside our loading terminals (NNPC depots inclusive) and most importantly, customer sites and retail sites.

b) Inform their drivers to present valid calibration certificates prior to loading.

c) Educate their drivers to be safety conscious and exhibit the highest sense of responsibility at all times as thery are carrying flammable products.

d) Make a report of accidents/truck breakdowns within 2 hours (for local deliveries) and within 24 hours (for bridging) to: the Depot Supervisors at the originating and receiving depots (Who should then pass the information on to the Fleet, Distribution and the environment, health and safety EHS managers).

e) Educate their drivers to ensure that invoices/waybills are stamped and signed at the destination/receiving depot by designated officials.

f) Educate drivers that where a shortage has been reported by the appropriate official at the receiving depot/destination, they should sign the waybill/invoice if they are in agreement or refuse to sign if they are not in agreement. This should not be an excuse for disrupting the customer’s operations.

g) Inform the Fleet Manager in writing where a truck will not be available for loading for any period in excess of one week stating the reason (e.g. general overhauling, etc).

h) Have valid goods in transit (GIT) insurance and performance bonds for all bridging trucks.

i) Educate their drivers that Oando will terminate the contract of any transporter that consistently reports product shortages on deliveries.

j) Educate their transporters that tampering with or adulterating any products loaded for delivery to customers is illegal and that we will terminate the truck and driver found guilty of such activity.

k) Educate their drivers of the need to be time conscious and proceed quickly and safely to their delivery destination. We will soon start timing deliveries to ensure that all drivers conform to our minimum product delivery times.

Don’ts:

Transporters should not:

a) Present trucks which they know are not in good condition for loading.

b) Present trucks on goods in transit (GIT) for loading.

c) Use trucks registered with us for loading with other marketers or use trucks not registered with us for loading at any of our terminals (NNPC depots inclusive).

d) Similarly, transporters should not exchange the registration plate numbers on trucks for any reason whatsoever. (these constitute serious offences and we will not hesitate to terminate the transportation contract).
