In a bid to ensure a steady supply of potable water in Lagos State, Oando Gas and Power, a subsidiary of Oando PLC, has announced a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the Lagos Water Corporations (LWC) to provide cost effective and regular power supply to LSWC facilities. Water supply to the huge and growing population of Lagos has been hampered by the epileptic public supply of power to the LWC facilities over the years. With this partnership, Oando Gas & Power will build an Independent Power Plant, which will generate and supply uninterrupted power solutions to the facilities of the Lagos Water Corporation which in turn will guarantee steady water supply to residents of Lagos and its environ. Commenting on the partnership, Bolaji Osunsanya, Managing Director, Oando Gas & Power, states; “We have responded to Lagos State Government’s demand for cost effective and regular power supply to its water supply facilities with a competitively priced solution that assures hassle free operations. Our project is expected to save the Lagos State government N156 million in potential annual savings or N1.56 billion over the 10-year life of the agreement”. The project, developed as a ring-fenced power solution, was awarded to Oando Gas & Power, after a competitive tender process which involved other local and international energy solutions providers. Also commenting, Engr. Shayo Holloway, Group Managing Director, Lagos Water Corporations states; “The Lagos State Government under the leadership of Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has taken the proverbial bull by the horn to see to the implementation of this project. It is expected that when completed in November 2008, the Lagos metropolis and environ will witness 24 hrs of steady water supply at unprecedented level that has never been witnessed in this great state”. Oando Gas & Power, a member of the Oando Group, is excited by this public private partnership opportunity and it is expected that upon completion of the project, Lagos Water Corporation will achieve significant improvement in its water delivery to end users. |
