Oando Commissions Ultra Modern Aviation Terminal
in Abuja
In line with its optimal customer satisfaction drive, Oando Plc will commission its ultra modern aviation terminal in Abuja on Tuesday, June 7, 2005.
The Oando Abuja Aviation Terminal, which will be officially commissioned by the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Alhaji Isa Yuguda, will immediately enable domestic and international airlines to refuel their airplanes en route through the nation’s capital.
The commissioning of this aviation fuel terminal is part of Oando’s Aviation expansion programme which has already witnessed the acquisition of a brand new articulated 75,000 litre high precision bowser to boost the Lagos operations. Plans are also underway to extend the company’s superior aviation services to Port Harcourt in the third quarter of the year.
The strategic aviation expansion programme is expected to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the company’s aviation business. This will in turn provide the needed spring board to gain increased market share.
Oando’s emphasis on customer satisfaction and operational efficiency has already resulted in the company being given the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s (FAAN’s) Corporate award, as the ““Best Oil Company of the Year 2004.”
The modern aviation terminal meets all international aviation requirements and it is built according to American Petroleum Institute (API) standards. It has a tank farm facility made up of horizontal (settling) and vertical (storage) tanks with a combined capacity of 1.5m litres. Other facilities of the terminal include an integrated pipeline system to achieve simultaneous loading and discharging capabilities; pressure tested hoses to API specifications and computer and radio links to other Oando offices. The development is expected to contribute significantly to the anticipated 25% increase in Oando’s total annual volume sales.
According to the Aviation Manager, Mr. Livinus Arungwa, “This installation is equipped with high profile quality assurance and into plane product delivery facilities and equipment aimed at steering our aviation activities within the ambits of IATA’s, ICAO’s and FAAN’s aviation recommended best practices, requirements, regulations and safety standards. This will enable us continue to supply Jet-A1 fuel guaranteed to have the parameter specifications that meet the requirements of the current American Standards for Testing Materials standards.”
The terminal was constructed to comply with all industry best practices on Health, Safety and Environmental Standards. It also enables easy influx, manoeuvring and movement of bowsers and other motorized vehicles.
Some if the safety standards deployed in the construction of the terminal include:
• Robust fire fighting equipment to enhance safety
o Full fire extinguisher coverage
o Foam mixer
o Deluge Sprinkler system on top of all tanks
o Quick coupling hydrant heads connected to the wet pipeline network
• State of the art filter-coalescer vessels for discharging and loading
• Full water and power supply redundancy
The Chief Marketing Officer, Commercial of Oando, Mr. Ayo Ajose-Adeogun comments, “At Oando, we are geared toward increasing customer satisfaction. With this modern terminal, existing and prospective customers will yet again be able to take advantage of our superior customer services in Abuja.
