Oando Awards Scholarships to Indigenes of Host Communities – improves quality of life in Bundu and Onne Communities
Oando Plc on Wednesday December 15, 2005 gave indigenes of its host communities in Onne (Rivers State) and Bundu (Port Harcourt) course to smile as it took its Community Development initiative even closer to the people. Besides contributing significantly to the year-end activities in the host communities, the company’s gesture included the award of scholarships to secondary school students from the communities in an emotion filled ceremony.
In separate presentation ceremonies in held at the Oando Divisional office in Port Harcourt and the office of the Chairman of Eleme Local Government, Chief Ejor N. Ejor, Oando Plc reiterated its commitment to improving the standard of living in its host communities. In a speech delivered by Asanimo Omezi, Divisional Manager Port Harcourt, she commended the exemplary cordial relationship that exists between Oando and its host communities which she said was built on mutual trust, understanding and commitment to the development of the community.
“Oando is a proudly African company with its roots here in Nigeria; it is therefore natural that as good corporate citizens; we have paid attention to the success and socio-economic development of our host communities. In the years to come, we will continually increase our involvement in the communities as we contribute significantly to ensuring a stable future for the inhabitants”.
Speaking in Onne, at the Terminal Manager, Mr. Peter Esekhaigbe thanked the community on behalf of the Management of Oando Plc for receiving the company with open arms since it commenced business in the community in 2004 and more so, the brotherly relationship that exists between the community and the Oando Terminal there.
Highlight of the award ceremony in Onne and Port Harcourt was the presentation of award cheques to the 2005 beneficiaries of the annual scholarship. The event also afforded Oando Plc an opportunity to present drums of transformer oil to Bundu Community to improve electricity supply to the community and its immediate surroundings. In attendance at the presentation were the parents/guardians of the beneficiaries and representatives of the communities.
