Oando Appoints Kamar Bakrin as Chief Operating Officer

Oando Plc. has appointed Mr. Kamar Bakrin as its Chief Operating Officer, as part of its strategy to further strengthen its Management team and position itself to achieving its goal of being the ‘last mile’ energy company.

Kamar Bakrin is a Business Strategist and Operations Specialist with an MBA in Finance and Strategy from the Columbia Business School, New York, USA. He holds a B.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He is also an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ACA).
Kamar started his career at Arthur Andersen, Lagos Nigeria, where he rose to the position of ABA Senior before moving to Colgate Palmolive, Lagos, Nigeria as the Budget & Planning Manager/ Systems Project Leader. From there, he was transferred to Colgate Palmolive, Johannesburg, South Africa as the Category Financial Manager, where amongst other functions, he was responsible for performing financial analyses for major product launches in highly competitive markets and managing budget and control functions for the entire company’s overhead costs. Shortly after leaving Colgate, he served as a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, Massachusetts, USA and from there went on to Ocean and Oil Holdings, where he became the Executive Vice President/ Head, Corporate Development.

At Ocean and Oil Holdings, Kamar’s responsibilities spanned group strategy, investments and strengthening the group’s portfolio companies’ capabilities. Whilst there, he led varied projects/ transactions for the group and affiliated companies including business start-up, debt and equity raising, viability assessment and sale and purchase. He also led the post merger integration of Unipetrol Nig. Plc. and Agip Nig. Plc. following the group’s acquisition of the two publicly quoted companies. This transaction was the biggest merger in the Nigerian history. Before his appointment as the Chief Operating Officer of Oando, he was the Deputy Managing Director, UTC Nigeria.
Kamar enjoys playing basketball and squash, reading/ watching comedy and studying modern history.
