Mr. Navaid Burney

Mr. Navaid Burney was appointed as a Non Executive Director of the Company on 27 May, 2008.
Mr. Burney is a Private Equity Investment Banker in Standard Bank. Prior to his current role, he was a Partner of Emerging Capital Partners (ECP), a leading Africa focused Private Equity Fund Manager from 2005 to 2009. He was responsible for ECP’s Johannesburg office sourcing, transacting and monitoring investments in a number of high growth sectors. Mr. Burney was also a Non Executive Director representing ECP on the Boards of Directors of Notore Chemical Industries and Ocean and Oil [Investments/Holdings] Limited from 2006 to 2009 and from 2007 to 2009, respectively.
He also worked as a General Manager of Investment Banking of First Merchant Bank of Zimbabwe from 1997 to 2000. From 1993 to 1997, Mr. Burney was a Senior Investment Officer with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), where he focused on mining finance and provided advisory services in Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Gabon. He was an Associate Manager with Union Carbide Corporation’s treasury and gained international banking experience from assignments in New York, Paris and Abu Dhabi. Mr. Burney serves on the Board of Directors of Central African Gold PLC, De Rustica Estates, Tourism Services Zimbabwe and Touch the Wild Pty Ltd as a Non Executive Director.
Mr. Burney obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Georgetown University, USA, in 1983 and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of California, Berkeley, USA, in 1990.
