Mr. Adewale Tinubu

Wale Tinubu is the Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, a position he assumed after a successful stint as the Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the company from July 2000 to June 2001.

Wale started his career with a law firm, where he worked on corporate and petroleum law assignments. In 1994, he co- founded Ocean and Oil Group and guided its strategic development leading to the acquisition of Unipetrol during the Federal Government of Nigeria’s privatization exercise in 2000. In 2002, Wale also led the largest ever acquisition of a quoted Nigerian company, with the acquisition of Agip by Unipetrol through an international bid conducted by Agip Petroli International B.V.

He is widely recognised for his role in the successful transformation of Oando from a petroleum marketing to an integrated energy group, adding international supply & trading, gas & power, energy services and exploration and production. Today, Oando PLC has investment across the energy value chain and is one of sub-Saharan Africa’s foremost indigenous integrated energy solutions group providing employment to over 15,000 direct and indirect employees.

In 2007, Wale was named “Global Young Leader’ by World Economic Forum, Geneva, Switzerland, in recognition of his achievements as a leading business executive under 41. In 2010, he received Africa ‘Business Leader of the Year’ award from the Africa Business Magazine and the Commonwealth Business Council for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the development of the African Oil and Gas industry.

Wale is a member of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria, Nigerian Bar Association and sits on the board of several blue-chip companies as Chairman or Director.

He earned a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from the University of Liverpool, England in 1988 and a Master of Law degree (LLM) from the London School of Economics, England, in 1989 where he specialized in International Finance and Shipping.
